A Message from Founder - Master Art Mason

Listen to what our parents are saying about our program!

"We are thrilled with the news of your new location. We wish you the best of luck! We know of 5 families in the neighbourhood who will be checking out the new location in August. We have put in a GREAT word for your school. We are also so proud of Andrew receiving student of the month for June. We have noticed a huge change in Andrew since his enrolment in Martial Arts...his blood pressure is down 15; his attention is increased and his impulsivity and hyperactivity have decreased. Thanks for Everything!!!!"

Stephanie, Sam and Andrew Onorato

"In August 2002 my son were asking if they could join martial arts. After finding Master Art Mason & the Peaceful Warriors' and deciding that it could in fact help my sons, one of which is A.D.D and the other with A.D.D. & A.D.H.D. In September 2002 they started taking classes and being the nosey mother I am, I stayed and watched. I had always wanted to do this but was reluctant. I have been overweight most of my life, but had started to lose weight & by September 1st had lost 30 pounds Well, one evening, while watching my sons, I was asked by Pu Sa Bum Nim Scott if I wanted to try a class, with some reservation I decided to try. Who would have thought that 1&1/2 years later, I would be Green Belt with double blue stripe. I would have never imagined!

I have more energy and confidence. I've never been able to stick to any kind of exercise regime, but when you enjoy what you are doing it makes a world of difference. I have met some wonderful people, the instructors are AWESOME, they are always there when you need them!

Martial Art is hard work, but well worth the effort! The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. I could be having a bad day, and then go to class & everything feels better when I leave.

As for my sons, they are doing great & still loving it. My oldest's marks have improved quite a bit ad he is now on the Leadership Team (At the Peaceful Warriors). My youngest has come along way as well. I am very proud of both of them! As for me, I have lost a total of 60 pounds, I know I would not have kept it off if it weren't for going to class.

I would like to say a BIG THANKS to Masters Art, Curt & Scott for always being there, and never giving up on us. I am PROUD to be a Peaceful Warrior!"

Anne Fisher. Belle River - Student & mother of 2 (All students and all Black Belts Now)

"I had heard alot about the Peaceful Warriors program and had talk to friends that had their children involved in the program. My two older sons really wanted to try it and I thought after a while of them asking about it and getting information from others agreed to look into it further for them. After the first class which they were able to try before signing them up officially they loved it. It has now been a year and half since that class. The improvement in their self-esteem is unbelievable. They are always showing compassion for others as well as respect. When people say it helps with school they are not kidding. In my son's case he had trouble with distractability, he now is able to concentrate on the tasks at hand with less problems as he use to. I have recommended this program to many people and am proud of my children's success in and out of school. I look forward to seeing my younger children having the same enthusiasm as their older brothers do."

Sincerely,

Marjorie Beaudoin
Mother of 4 Peaceful Warriors' & 2 Black Belts!

What are parents saying about The Peaceful Warriors'?

  • "The benefits include an increase in physical fitness, flexibility and perhaps more importantly an increase in self-esteem!"

  • "Improved Concentration and mental alertness"

  • "Self confidence and builds a need to excel!"

  • "The most important benefit of a child taking Martial Arts besides the obvious self-defense & discipline, would be the knowledge that a child can feel confident in making right decisions when the time comes. I feel that if children gain confidence in themselves, they can handle the many situations that life can present to them. I truly believe that MA gives kids the self-confidence that they need."

  • "The benefits of taking Martial Arts are: self-defense, respect for yourself & for others, self-confidence, self-control, discipline, determination, stress relief & a drug-free lifestyle."

  • "I feel that it builds self-confidence & teaches my children to take responsibility for themselves."

  • "I like the changes I see in my children since starting with the Peaceful Warriors."

  • "The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute stresses the consequential benefits of discipline & self-improvement as opposed to the superficial goals of tournament competition."

  • "Knowledgeable and dedicated staff. Equal to the elder Korean Master my son had in the US. Superb coaching ability and instructor's choices of subjects to coach on. Overheard a "don't smoke" lesson and was very impressed!"

  • "Outstanding control over class. Kids behavior reflects the leadership of the masters and instructors!

"Between my 3 children and myself we have been involved with the peaceful warriors for going on four years now. Martial arts has proven to be very beneficial for all of us. My son is 9 and my daughters are 6 and the amount of discipline and self esteem has increased in all of our lives a great deal. We are learning to use real self defense in real life situations, when and if needed. My children are learning to deal with bullies and to maintain a good self image and esteem. The Instructors of the institution also try very hard to be very involved with our communitee. As a mother of three I highly recommend The Peaceful Warriors martial arts Institute for children and adults of all ages."

Paulette Preston - Mother of 3 Peaceful Warriors', Student - Belle River

Here what another Parent has to say about our amazing program!

"My two boys were restless. They wanted to do an activity which was both rewarding and challenging. We decided to explore the possibilities in the Martial Arts. After going to the different facilities available we checked out The Peaceful Warriors who teaches Hapkido.

We met with the instructor who were very enthusiastic and helpful. This group of the Martial Arts I found were family oriented and the teaching of defense rather than aggression was very appealing to me. They had a sound philosophy and a deep sense of fair play which seemed to fit in exactly with what we were looking for. We decided to enroll the boys immediately.

The boys got their uniforms and badges which my mom and I painfully sewed on the outfits by hand. Oh the pin pricks. The boys were delighted and began an adventure they will always remember.

Jonathan, my youngest, is a quiet boy and needs more confidence in himself. As he progressed in the program and began learning the moves, customs and rules I could see a gradual change in him. He began to participate in school functions more and he became more outgoing and sure of himself. He now leads instead of following. This in itself has proven how Hapkido has strengthened his character for the future.

Gary Andrew my eldest was always at the forefront of activities and over time in Hapkido he has become more tolerant and is quick to lend a helping hand both at home and in school.

The two boys now have advanced into the Masters Club and the Tournament Team. They both help teach the new students the art of Hapkido and compete in the tournaments.

Since they have been going to Hapkido the two boys have progressed together and have earned their belts which now is blue. This is a wonderful achievement. They became stronger in the physical activity but most important is the fact that they improved their minds in a positive direction. This I feel is the direct result of the teaching of these fine instructors.

Gary Andrew and Jonathan enjoy the tournaments. It is family affair as we all go and watch. They have shown they are good sports and their attitude is an excellent whether they win or lose in the tournaments. The encourage each other and are happy if either one wins or consoles if they lose.

The boys are anxious to learn more and it is a special treat when they use the short sticks
They look forward to their lessons. They look up to their instructors for guidance with respect and admiration. The boys find the instructors are great role models.

Each master has a special talent in the way they teach their students. They try to teach moral lessons in class as well as self defence. This includes courtesy, indomitable spirit, self control, perseverance and integrity. The boys welcome being taught by the Masters, each and everyone.

I would recommend the Peaceful Warriors for anyone considering entering their kids in the Martial Arts."

"I can't believe it has been over a year since I felt that first twinge of muscle spasm trying to do Ki Bon Hyung #1. As they say, time flies when you are having fun. And fun is exactly what my daughter Maria and I have been having since we joined the Peaceful Warriors Club in January 2003. That of course does not mean that we never had to sweat while trying to perfect the patterns and techniques taught to us by Master Mason, Master Curt and the rest of the clubs skilful instructors. But with sweat comes the satisfaction of being able to move faster, kick higher and punch harder.

Self control, indomitable spirit, courtesy, integrity and perseverance, the 5 tenets the school lives by are evident at every meeting and every interaction between the instructors and the students. Every parent should be happy to see the instructors taking the time to talk about these values, rather than simply concentrating on demonstrating the swiftest take out and disabling technique, leaving the kids to figure out the rest for themselves.

It has indeed been an enjoyable year, not only giving Maria and me an increased level of self confidence and physical well being, but also something to share together as we go forward in our ultimate quest for the black belt."

George Opocensky - Windsor

"Both my daughter and I started with the Peaceful Warriors' approximately a year and a half ago, with the intention of getting some exercise. It has evolved to much more for both my daughter and I. The discipline and seriousness she had developed in classes became apparent in her everyday activities and school duties. She enjoys attending every class and NEVER says NO to going.

Personally I am most impressed on how approachable both instructors and black belts are since day one. No matter what the rank you hold. The diversity and scope of materials taught keep one's interest in studying for the long run. Every lesson and/or technique is taught with an explanation and/or reason why it is done, therefore allowing the student to develop themselves through understanding what they are doing.

Studying martial arts has become part of our daily lives and that transitions was made easy through the feeling of community at the school. We both look forward to many more lessons and personal achievements in the future."

Bruno and Isabella Lapico, Windsor

Dear Parent,

I don't blame you. I know what you are thinking.....how can karate and martial arts teach wholesome values and success skills?” Well, I’m here to tell you, in more ways than you can begin to imagine.

My name is Art Mason . I’m the Founder of one of the most successful martial arts schools in the Canada. “The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute" in Windsor and Lakeshore Ontario Canada.

For over 20 years , I’ve been nurturing children like yours with character building tools found only in karate. No other sport can match them. In the next few pages, I’m going to tell you how you and your child can sample all of this, and more. Free of Charge and with no obligation to continue!

Watch as your child increases in confidence, energy and spirit. Stand and be dazzled as he becomes unstoppable in his quest for.....

  • Greater academic achievement.

  • Unshakable self respect.

  • Increased strength and fitness, in both body and mind.

And all of it comes while learning how to “kick, block, and punch.” Look at it this way. Your child’s first and biggest challenge comes not from “fighting for his rights on the street,” or “beating up the neighbourhood bully.” It comes, instead, from battling more sinister forces. Your child’s own fears and self doubts:

  • "I’m not as smart as Bobby"

  • “I don’t know what my teacher is wants from me.”

  • "I wish I was as [strong, pretty, tall, popular as Meghan.”

  • "Why do kids keep picking on me?"

The question is, how do you get your child to fight these demons? You know the problem. Your child has a tough time even telling you she’s haunted by them. Never mind how she might conquer them. Well, the good news is, I have a proven solution. A program that has already worked for thousands of children including my own! A series of lessons your child can learn easier than you think

To repeat, Martial Arts are less about your child learning to fight others, and more about fighting…himself. His innermost fears. Conquer them, and your child unleashes within himself a powerful, unstoppable force.

A force that gives him the strength to kick down the doors of his own self doubts, A force that opens your child to the exalting power of values.

In other words, when your child uses the discipline of karate to conquer his fears, he has power to transfer that discipline to all other areas of his life. I know of no other sport that does this better than karate. (I should know. Remember, I’ve been teaching it for 20 years.)

But don't take my word for it...................................

"Discover How To Give Your Child a Head Start In Life"

Are you doing everything you can to:

  • To arm your child to succeed in life?

  • To help them be the best they can be in school?

  • To develop their self confidence?

  • To assist them in developing their unique potential?

  • To learn self discipline?

Most parents do everything they can to teach these things to their children. But after school many parents need some help. The hours that kids spend after school are some of the most important hours in a child's life.

Between the 1st and 7th grade a child spends an average of 4200 hours doing basically nothing productive. This time is more valuable than you know. In 4200 hours you could graduate college, get your Masters Degree and your PHD. So why wouldn’t you let your child spend this valuable time learning skills that will last a lifetime.

When our kids get out of school, their parents know that their child is being trained in real Life Skills. With our busy 21st Century schedules, it's hard to find the time and resources to really help them with these important life skills.

You would think and expect that they would learn about perseverance, positive mental attitudes, self discipline and goal setting in school, but they really don't.

Students who attend The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute are a step up on others because we teach them about these important life skills and how to develop them to their fullest! Success traits that will pay off for the rest of their lives.

Our Program Can Change Your Child's Life!

In Our Program Your Child Will Experience . . .

  • Grade Improvement: The grades go up and stay up! Our program offers a lot more than just self-defense and physical agility. It is an educational/Black Belt program that will give your child the discipline needed to study, complete homework and organize their time wisely. Ultimately, this leads to better concentration at school and better grades. We make success a habit, not a chore!

  • Leadership Skills: To help them succeed in life! The Peaceful Warriors' will teach your child how to set goals and take responsibility for their own actions. These qualities, more than any others, will help your child develop as a leader and not as a follower. This, in turn, will ensure their success in school, college and life!

  • Increased Physical Aptitude and Fitness: To help your child develop physically! Our programs increase speed, stamina and agility in children. They also help develop balance, coordination and timing, which helps your child in sports and other activities.

  • Mental Development: To give your child the courage to say NO in the face of peer pressure! One of the scariest problems facing many parents today is the possibility that their child may become involved with drugs. The number of children taking drugs at a younger age is staggering. As active members in the nationally recognized Kid's Safe Network , we help promote anti-drug programs as well as conduct our own anger management and conflict resolution program. Our programs are designed to promote self-confidence and self-esteem--giving your child the strength to resist peer pressure.

  • High Energy Classes: Fun-filled classes your child will truly enjoy! From the children's point of view, the best part about our program is how much fun the classes really are. We focus your child's energy in a positive and productive manner.

  • Realistic Self-Defense Skills: That could save your child's life! While we wish it weren't a factor in our program, that fact remains that we live in a world full of undesirable people. We don't give children a false sense of reality by teaching them how to be victorious only in competition. Our program teaches your child how to protect himself in real life threatening situations. This invaluable skill could be the difference between life and death!

  • Personalized Attention: To ensure rapid progress! We focus on quality instruction and personal attention. Our students are treated as individuals. All of our classes are taught by highly trained instructors committed to excellence and continued learning. You'll feel safe knowing your child is receiving the finest instruction possible!

A Testimonial from the DeBortoli Family

"The Peaceful Warriors has been a tremendous influence on our lives. It has given the kids and I a chance to participate in an activity together as a family. The self-confidence and physical fitness is just one of the benefits we have all enjoyed. I can see a difference in the way the kids behave at home, school and in class. Their enthusiasm and love for Tae Kwon Do are evident by the big smiles they display in class and in their excitement to get to class. We have never been in an activity before where we could all participate and that it wasn't a struggle to maintain an interest. Since we joined over a year ago it has never been difficult to get the kids motivated to go to class and a lot of the time they ask to pick up extra classes.
The instructor s and staff of the Peaceful Warriors always go above and beyond what is required by them and genuinely love to see the children start to take responsibility for themselves and others in their class. It is evident when you watch a class that the kids are having fun but at the same time they are learning important life lessons through quotes of the day and discussions at the end of class. All the children are encouraged to participate and to help out in class but are not pushed until they are ready to volunteer themselves. The children are not centered out when they do something wrong and the instructors always find something positive to say to motivate those who are struggling to learn something new."

-- Mom -- Judy DeBortoli

"The Peaceful Warriors has made me more self-confident because they give me responsibilities in class such as leading the exercises and teaching lower belts. Tae Kwon Do is fun, you get to make new friends."

--Marissa --age 11

"The Peaceful Warriors is great because it is good exercise and it is all year long not just in the summer like soccer. It is also lots and lots of fun and the instructors are cool. I also like the self-defense and learning Korean."

--Marco--age 9

"I like the Peaceful Warriors because it is teaching me how to focus and helping me to concentrate on something besides Nintendo. We get lots of exercise to make us strong. I also like to play the games and sparring is cool."

--Luciano--age 7

"My sons have always been what you would call a 'handful', premature babies often are. My one son had been suspended in grade1, several times, for hands on. For six years I brought them to all the age appropriate agencies within the city for some kind of help for them. Some progress was made, but it was very limited.

Then about 4 years ago, my sons were about six, someone had recommended martial arts to me. I thought "Are you crazy? You actually want me to give my kid the ability to beat someone up? I can see it now, he is going to be expelled from school in the second grade. No way! It's not going to happen." That was my attitute for the next couple of years, all the while still trying to get them the help they needed and deserved. My point of view changed when I heard a story of a child who was like mine and how The Peaceful Warriors' helped him to be able to overcome his anger and agression at school. I has to check things out for myself, so I did. I brought the boys there to see what they did and one son thought it was a license to kill. This worried me, but the way the children are taught is about self defense and discipline. It is not about beating people up. This was something they very quickly learned and that attitude would not be tolerated. Soon the worry about my son being expelled from school was a distant memory. They are doing much better, socially, in school and the hands on incidents have not been an issue.

If your children are having a difficult time in school or at home the masters are there to listen and help with the problem. If they can they will present the situation to the class and use it as a lesson for the rest of the class without belittleing anyone. It is done with the upmost respect for the child and parents involved.

As a parent I would recommend The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute to anyone who cares about his or her child."

Bre-Ann Strickland. Windsor mother of 2 Peaceful Warriors' - Tested for Black Belt May 2008

"Dear Master Mason

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and gratitude to you personally and to The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute for the excellent job you are doing in training my sons Kasper and Phillip to be true Peaceful Warriors'.

Ever since my older son joined two years ago, I have noticed tremendous positive influence the Peaceful Warriors' had on him, not only physically - he became stronger, more agile and fit, but also on his attitude towards others as he became more courteous and considerate. And my younger son just could not wait his turn to be able to join. Now both of then enjoy the superior program that you offer.

What convinced me to sign up my sons to The Peaceful Warriors' in the first place, was the message conveyed in the Peaceful Warriors' Mission Statement and just one trial lesson Kasper attended. I realized right away that here he could find just the right training; in the martial art of Tae Kwon Do, realistic self-defense, and also in social skills, without the stress of competition. And I was not disappointed in my expectations.

Let me also stress something else I find exceptional and extraordinary. The Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute not only provides the most professional and dedicated training in the martial arts field, but is also an organization which is active in the community. By organizing social event, charity actions, children get-togethers it simply makes us feel like a big Peaceful Warriors' FAMILY.

I would like to end by saying this: Keep up the outstanding work Peaceful Warriors, your service is a real benefit to both members and the community.

Sincerely,

Tom Klimski" - Father of 2 Windsor Peaceful Warriors' - Black Belt Kacper and Black Belt Philip

"It is amazing to me to think that Jack has only had eight classes with your instructors. As the youngest child in the class (he just turned 4) I was really concerned about how he would do. He has never been to school, never lined up, raised his hand, or done any of the things that we as adults take for granted. Jack has astounded me – and every class he learns something! He is already able to recite his student creed, almost all his 5 tenants, and perform many of the skills required in class. Does he need extra help – yes….but so would I! And all the staff is always willing to work with this little guy, who often seems more interested in the other children’s work than his own. To say Jack is bright is an understatement, and this training has brought him a true challenge and passion, and I am so pleased that we found your school. He will begin JK in the fall and already we see a more confident, focused, little boy in front of us. He made three wishes in a fountain yesterday, and his first was to be Superman! (Well, he is four!) His second and third wishes were the same – to go to Martial Arts everyday and get his yellow belt so he can join the Black Belt Club! In the life of a child we can only hope to inspire growth, love and respect for others, and I truly believe that Jack is learning all these things under the leadership of Master Art Mason, Master Scott Mason and the staff at the Peaceful Warriors organization."

Listen to Mr. Davidson, father of Brandon Davidson. Brandon  tested for his Assistant Black Belt in May 2007!

The 10 Warning Signs of

 Low Self-Esteem

People don’t often understand just how damaging having low self-esteem can be!  People with low self esteem are often go unnoticed at school and at work because they do not do anything to stand out.  They don’t ever go for the goal or even try to make the sports team.”

“Low Self Esteem Sufferer’s are often the target of bullies at school as well as at work because they “bullies” know they won’t give them any hassle or a hard time and will be “easy” victims who will quickly bend to their will!”

The 10 Warning Signs of Low Self-Esteem:

  1. Walking with head and eyes down focused on the ground instead of Straight ahead.

  2. Shy and Reserved around new people and situations

  3. She does not ask questions in school or at home

  4. Hard for her to make friends

  5. Poor Hygiene

  6. Lack of Goals and Ambition

  7. Struggles to get out of bed

  8. Fails to believe she can do anything meaningful or worthwhile, so she never even tries!

  9. Does not try new things in fear of looking foolish and failing

  10. A Victim of a Bully!

These are just SOME of the warning signs of Low Self-Esteem you may be seeing in yourself or your child.  You do not necessarily show all of these warning signs, just one is enough to suffer from Low Self-Esteem.

Art Mason's Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute

10 Points Success System.

  1. Positive Role Models: What is the biggest asset of Art Mason's Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute? The is easy, the teachers! Now, I’ll tell you up front.  They are not like the teachers you’ve seen in the Martial Art movies.  Are they “tough guys?”  Yes.  But what you will notice (and so will your child)…is that they are “Nice Guys.” They have been hand selected…not just because they are great Martial Artists. They have been chosen because they are wonderful people…and have a great love of helping others benefit from the Martial Arts!   They also must pass a rigid certification course overseen by Master Art Mason himself. Our instructors care about each and every student individually and will work hard to assure that their potentials are reached.

  2. Physical Fitness: It is hard to feel good about yourself if you are out of shape. Adults and children both get a great workout, that is fun at the same time! When a student starts to see progress in the physical work they are doing, their self image follows as well.

  3. A High Energy, Exciting Environment: Many kids & adults have grown accustomed to virtual activities (video games, television, internet). Participating in an exciting, high energy environment, focused on an actual activity, will give your your or your child a very real sense of achievement!

  4. Learning to Set Goals: Our belt system is one of the keys to our success. On a very subtle level the student is taught to set goals and achieve them!  Over time the student starts to set goals in their non martial arts life as well, and has the tools to make these goals a reality.

  5. The Message of the Week: Regular exposure to our message of the week, which happens at the start of each and every class. These messages are on such topics as respect, focus, persistence, courage, discipline and confidence. Most of the parents at Art Mason's Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute find this is their favourite part of out classes.

  6. Curriculum Based Development: Our certified teachers, Master Curt Mason, Master Scott Mason and Mr. Kevin Miller are experts in their field and understand how to teach your child the skills of listening and focusing. In fact, they will start to learn these skills in the first week.

  7. A Series of Positively Constructed Challenges that will build your child’s confidence.  You will be delighted as you see your children confidently move outside their comfort zone.  As the weeks go by, you will smile with pride as your son or daughter moves from challenge to challenge…their confidence soaring at each new accomplishment!

  8. An Atmosphere of Respect: You will watch in amazement as your child learns to give and to earn respect. But even more important is they will develop Self Respect.

  9. Order and Structure: Even thought the atmosphere at Art Mason's Peaceful Warriors' Martial Arts Institute is friendly, supportive and fun, it is NOT playtime! You will be delighted to see how your children develop focus and persistence in our orderly, structured environment.

  10. A Friendship Based Environment: If you are expecting to find harsh old world martial arts instructors at our school you will be very disappointed! The Cobra-Kai school you saw in the Karate Kid is not how we run our school. Our instructors are hand picked and trained in teaching for many years. There are no outside teachers on our floor, they are all home grown. The atmosphere created is one of respect and friendship. A mentoring environment and a strong student / teacher relationship. That atmosphere of friendship, support, and respect will give your child the support he or she needs to succeed!
